How ‘The Pitt’ became TV’s best, most ambitious show in just over a year

When it comes to television dramas, The Pitt is operating at a different level.

After debuting just over a year ago, on Jan. 9, 2025, HBO Max's medical series has already produced two heralded 15-episode seasons, was proclaimed Best Drama at the Emmys, and is poised to make another romp through the upcoming awards season. The quick turnaround between cycles and the sheer volume of installments per season makes The Pitt something of a unicorn in the streaming world, where high-end rivals like Severance, The White Lotus, and Euphoria take years between seasons producing half as many episodes. HBO Max has already ordered a "stat" renewal for Season 3.
