Katherine LaNasa Breaks Silence on Dana's Liberty Bell Pin in Season 2 [Exclusive]

Katherine LaNasa has finally broken her silence over something fans have noticed about Dana in the trailers for Season 2. LaNasa was one of three actors to win an Emmy for her performance in The Pitt Season 1— Noah Wyle and Shawn Hatosy were the other two. It was unclear at the end of Season 1 if she’d be back in Season 2, but it’s since been confirmed that Dana isn’t ready to say goodbye to Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center just yet. Fans were quick to notice Dana wearing a Liberty Bell pin in a recent trailer for The Pitt Season 2, which takes place over the 4th of July weekend, and now we finally know why.
“I asked for it. I wanted something for the 4th of July. One time, I went into a hospital, and I can't remember why I was getting this minor surgery. I think it was from this injury that I got on set one time, where I ran into this trailer hitch, and it left a dent in my leg, and they had to fill my leg with fat because I had a hole in my thigh from hitting this trailer hitch so hard. I think it was that. I can't remember. I haven't had many surgeries, so I think that’s it. They had so much celebratory jewelry on. I think it was St. Patty's Day. It could have been the 4th of July. I don't remember, but I was like, 'Everybody's sober here?' There was so much jewelry going on, so many things, and so much celebratory stuff on their body, and I thought, 'I want to have a little bit of that.'”
LaNasa also spoke about the political climate in America, and how she didn’t want Dana to stand aligned with the current administration. “Dana, she’s a charge nurse. She’s very professional. So I asked, ‘Is there something?’ And Trump is wearing an American flag right now, and he’s not my favorite, so I didn’t want to wear anything that Trump would wear. So I was like, ‘Is there anything else?’ And my grandfather always wore his Kiwanis Pin. ‘Is there something that would be a piece of Americana that I could wear?’” You can find the rest of LaNasa’s quote below, where she explains how she and the team settled on the Liberty Bell specifically for Dana to represent America in the ER.
“And they found that Liberty Bell, which is amazing because it's from Pennsylvania and it's vintage, and they had it replicated. They had a cast, and they made multiples. So, it was very intentional. It was an idea of mine that Lyn Paolo, our incredible costumer, then just carried out in the most lovely, beautiful way. Thank you for noticing.”
