Patrick Ball Reveals How Dr. Langdon’s Rehab Experience Affected His Season 2 Performance
HBO Max‘s The Pitt Season 2 takes place a full tenth months after the dramatic events of Season 1. In that interim, the once awkward med student Whitaker (Gerran Howell) has matured into a capable doctor, nurse Donnie (Brendan Mendez Homer) has become both an NP and new dad, and Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) has been battling his addiction to prescription painkillers offscreen.
The Pitt Season 2 marks Langdon’s first day back after months of rehab and counseling, and it does appear as though he is a changed man. Maybe Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) doesn’t want to hear it, but Pitt fans should be able to see the difference with their own eyes.
Dr. Frank Langdon was something of a live wire in The Pitt Season 1. He’d hustle through the ED with the energy of a kid at recess, leaping up to tap the top of a door frame as he passed underneath. There are literal moments where he breathlessly spins as he hurries from patient to patient. He exudes a boyish confidence and an insatiable hunger to discover what’s next.
Meanwhile, in The Pitt Season 2, Langdon is physically far more still. He moves sheepishly and quotes Irish philosophers. Sure, he’s still good for a fist-bump, but there’s a distinct physical shift in actor Patrick Ball’s performance.
